What is acne?
Acne is an inflammatory disease which is caused by abundant function of sebaceous oil glands or hair follicles.
Acne treatment is a difficult and complex process. Acne is caused by many factors, such as hormonal imbalance, congenital disposition to abundance of sebaceous oil, and also by psychic state, life style, living and working environment, medication and nutrition.
Acne treatment involves more procedures and healing treatments, such as application of antibiotics, chemical peeling, cryotherapy by liquid nitrogen, surgical treatment of extensive inflamed areas, etc.
Laser treatment
Smoothbeam laser is used to heal acne. This kind of laser can both treat the latest symptoms of acne and to prevent sebaceous oil glands from inflammation. It is even possible to treat old acne scars. The laser may eliminate the abundant function of sebaceous oil glands into the depth of 5 mm under the skin’s top layer.
Winter is the best time for undergoing this procedure.
A laser gal mask is an alternative to the traditional laser treatment, which combines the laser therapy with a gel containing hydrogencarbonate anions. The gel is used together with laser as a complementary therapy in acne treatment.
Are you the right candidate for laser acne treatment?
If you suffer from large acne symptoms or acne scars and consider their removal your expectations should be realistic.
Please, don’t forget that acne is caused by many factors and it is essential to handle this problem from many different ways. The laser acne treatment may substantially improve the state of your skin but it does not necessarily have to remove all the undesirable symptoms.
Before the operation
Discuss your expectations and ideas with the surgeon. He/she will check the state of your skin and the affected area extent. After that he/she will recommend you which procedure would be the best for you. He/she may plan a combination of several procedures in order to obtain the best possible results.
The operation
The entire procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes. In case of lighter forms of acne it is sufficient to repeat the laser treatment 2 to 3 times week. Serious forms or acute phases of acne need to be treated daily.
Anaesthesia
Desensitizing cream is applied on the areas to be treated (face, neck, shoulders) one hour before the operation.
After the operation
The treated areas will be slightly inflamed immediately after the operation; however, the inflammation disappears very fast.
It is essential to avoid sun exposure for few days after the operation and to protect the skin with sun-block creams.
What are the results of laser acne treatment?
It is necessary to repeat the sessions at least three times to obtain the best results. Of course, it depends on the state of your skin and the extent of the affected area. This procedure may be combined with another treatment, e.g. chemical peeling.
Don’t forget that it is necessary to handle the problem from various ways to get the best results in treating acne and to follow all the surgeon’s recommendations as to your lifestyle and nutrition.
